CENTENARY BAND CONCERT 27th October 2007 |
The Royal Army Medical Corps Band
|
The Royal Army Medical Corps Band
(Volunteers) was formed in 1984 following the
disbandment of the regular Royal Army Medical
Corps Staff Band.
Recruiting for the new band took place at the
Duke of York’s Headquarters in London. It proved
a popular place to recruit as it quickly came up
to strength with 32 musicians of the correct
instrumentation.
The Band is part of the 2nd Medical Brigade
and is now based with the RAMC Regimental
Headquarters at Camberley. There are 36
musicians comprising of ex regular army
musicians, police officers, teachers, company
directors and many other professions. Currently
the Band performs at 95 military engagements a
year and has taken on many of the commitments
previously undertaken by the regular RAMC Staff
Band.
All the musicians serve on Territorial Army
engagements and have fulltime civilian jobs,
some travel long distances, juggling timetables
and arranging babysitters in order to attend
practice nights and the engagements the band
undertake.
