Emmaus – The
Way of Faith, is a major new course designed to
welcome people into the Christian faith and the life
of the Church. It is rooted in an understanding of
evangelism, nurture and discipleship modelled on the
example of Jesus, as portrayed in the story of the
Emmaus Road
|
Emmaus enables the Church to build relationships with those
outside of the Church, accompany enquirers on their
journey of faith and bring new Christians to maturity.
However, the course is equally suitable for people
within the Church who feel a desire to go over the
basics and to study again the fundamental meaning
which they hold dear.
|
At Saint
Augustine’s we have two successful Emmaus groups
running, and it is hoped to start a new one this year.
The groups both began with a view to introducing
people to the Christian faith, supported by others who
were already Christians. This joyfully resulted in
members of the groups making active commitments to
Christ in the Sacrament of Confirmation. However, the
work and the fellowship did not stop there. Both
groups have developed in a slightly different manner,
but have come to be regular meeting for study
discussion, prayer and reflection. It is a testament
to our mutual respect that the groups have stayed
together, learning and growing together, welcoming
each individual’s experiences and thoughts as input,
and feeling a closeness on our spiritual journey.
