COMMUNITY HERO
Jo Douglas, from Heron Wood, Aldershot, won the good neighbour award at a BBC awards ceremony celebrating 'community heroes'.  Jo has been a much loved member of our congregation for may years and was proposed for the award by Pauline Fella, our Church Warden.
Jo was described as a 'guardian angel' for the work she does in the community, including visiting the sick, giving people lifts to hospital, organising shopping trips and setting up a parent and toddler group at our church.
Jo was successfully treated for a malignant brain tumour sixteen years ago and she says it was that experience that inspired her to step up her support for others.  "I had helped people before, but when you have a close encounter, you can sympathise more with other poorly people," she said.  "I was surprised when I won the award because lots of other people help out in the community too, but I am delighted".  Jo said she could not do all she does without the support of her husband Ron.
