The Branch of the Mothers' Union at St Augustine's was inaugurated in 1910 and is part of this worldwide Christian organisation with more than a million members in 70 countries. Our faith in Christ unites us in our shared belief in the importance of supporting family life.  Click here for further details on our branch history. Mothers' Union work in prisons throughout the UK is widely acclaimed and includes setting up Branches for women in prison, helping in Visitors' Centres and MU members help staff the creche at Coldingley Prison, encouraging children to enjoy visiting an absent parent and fulfilling the Mothers' Union's 5th Object "Helping those whose family life has met with adversity".

There is a very active membership of the MU at St Augustine's and we regularly hold monthly meetings.  The ‘fun' side of the Mothers' Union is also not forgotten as we invite the Parish to annual social events (as detailed below) and we therefore continue our involvement in supporting family life projects in the parish, the deanery and in Guildford Diocese.   We would welcome all Baptised Christians to become new members - old and young, men and women, single, married, divorced or widowed.  Why not come along to one of the events below to see what our Branch is all about.

Mothers' Union Response to the Bailey Review

100 years, not out – our Centenary celebrations

On June 18th 2010 St Augustine’s Mothers’ Union celebrated one hundred years of faithful witness and service in their Parish with a Mass of thanksgiving followed by a ‘Strawberry Tea’.   Over eighty people attended the event including the Mayor and Mayoress of Rushmoor, Councillor and Mrs Brian Parker; Jacky Atkins the Guildford Diocesan President of the Mothers’ Union; five past Diocesan Presidents and members from various parts of the Diocese. Fr. Keith Hodges celebrated the Mass and in his opening address he paid tribute to Mary Sumner, the founder of the Mothers’ Union, and to the ongoing work of the Organisation.

The Mass was a wonderful service of thanksgiving and the voices of the Mothers’ Union members resounded around the church as they joined together to sing the wonderful hymns of praise.

When the Mass had ended everyone retired into the church hall for refreshments and enjoyed a traditional ‘Afternoon Tea’ consisting of a variety of sandwiches and home-made cakes and not forgetting the scones filled with cream and strawberries.    This was followed on Sunday 20th June 2010 with a lunch for the whole Parish when everyone could share in the great birthday celebration. A truly wonderful and happy weekend!
